Labour For Palestine – Canada calls for labour solidarity with the Palestinian and Lebanese people as they face the Israeli war machine

As Israel continues its genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, it has unleashed a wave of murderous attacks on Lebanon this week that claimed the lives of over 1000 people and injured over 2500 more. Over one million have been displaced from their homes in a repeat of what happened in Gaza one year ago.

Israel’s policy of assassinating resistance leaders, including the latest killing of Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut on Friday threatens to plunge the region into a broader conflict that will claim even more lives and lead to even more destruction. 

Israel commits these war crimes and crimes against humanity with total impunity and with the support and complicity of imperialist western states. Canada shamefully continues to justify Israel’s crimes via its political, diplomatic and military support for the Zionist regime in Tel Aviv.

With the utter failure of the so-called international community, international law and institutions to stop Israel’s genocide, we can only count on the power and solidarity of ordinary people including workers and their unions.

A just peace in the region can only be achieved when Palestinians are free from the illegal occupation, exercise the right to return to their homes, and enjoy their inalienable right to full self-determination on their ancestral lands. All this starts with an end to the genocide.

We call on workers and unions to double their efforts in support of the Palestinian people’s struggle for liberation and a just peace. We call on labour activists and unions across Canada to:

• Speak out now! 

• Participate in the upcoming October 5th National Day of Action against the genocide. 

• Organize and mobilize for a total arms embargo on Israel now. 

• Demand that Canada end its complicity with the genocide by severing diplomatic relations and imposing sanctions on the apartheid state of Israel.
